Book Review: Someday, Someday, Maybe

I was first drawn to this book because Lauren Graham (aka Lorlelai Gilmore) is the author. I loved me some Gilmore Girls back in the day (still do). The second reason I was drawn to it was the plot: A struggling actress in the 90s has only 6 months left to the deadline she has set for her self. Growing up in the 90s I dreamed of becoming an actress.

For me the beginning was a bit slow going, but not anywhere near were I wanted to abandon reading the book. I also thought the story/characters were a bit predicable at times.
I did still enjoy this book though. There were some funny lines/situations that would make me chuckle out loud. I liked the inside look into trying to break into acting and that it was set in the 90s before things like cell phones and social media.

Would I recommend? Yes, especially if like me the 90s have a special place in your heart and you hoped you would be a star someday (someday, maybe).

Summer Favorites!

Since the official start of Fall is a few days away, here are some of the things I have been loving this past summer.

BEAUTY

Buxom Lip Gloss Set Nudes & Brights

Love these glosses!   I got one in a ipsy bag and I was hooked. These are not the tingling ones (like the one I received in the glam bag) and while I did miss it at first I still love the formula. Its feels really good on the lips, not sticky at all. Plus they smell good too. I tend to reach for the nude colors more often but the brights are so pretty, that I am glad to have them in the set. Another thing I love is the size. Perfect to throw in your bag when your out and about.
OGX Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng Shampoo & Conditioner

I had these stashed away because I got them when there was good sale, but was using other shampoos and conditioners. I decided it was time to use them and now I remember how much I like them. Great smell which lingers in your hair. I wanna try the tea tree mint ones next.
Garnier Clean + Purifying Foam Cleanser For Combination Skin

Funny story about this product. Its not your normal pump. To get the product out you have to squeeze the bottle. So I had fallen asleep on the couch and when I woke up I was like uh I should wash my face before going back to sleep. Its like 1 am, I am half asleep and I decide to use this face wash for the first time. So there I am trying to open this bottle, and I am struggling and struggling. Thinking I got a broken bottle.  Well I finally realize that it says to squeeze. Ah ha! Anyway I actually really like this cleanser. I like that its foam. It smells pretty good. It has been doing a decent job keeping my face clear considering I have pretty much abandoned my skin care routine (this summer) except for washing my face. I will most likely be repurchasing this.

                                               OTHERS

TV Show: Psych My bf got me hooked on this show. It is pretty funny. The show is about a guy named Sean who pretends to be psychic (he is just very observant). He helps the police solve crimes. His best friend Gus helps him on cases and they run their own agency. The two actors who play Sean and Gus have great I guess you could say friend chemistry and are hilarious together. I am on the third season currently. All the seasons with the exception of the last one are on Netflix.
Movie: The Guardians Of The Galaxy Such a good movie. The kind of movie you wanna see again, in the theater. Even if your not into comic book/super hero movies I still think you would like this movie. Plus its funny.
                                                                Book: If I Stay

I am doing a whole review post for this book, so click here to read it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Drink: Ginger Ale

I have been kinda addicted to ginger ale this summer. Maybe its comfort thing as I have been recovering.

Drink # 2: Watermelon Coolatta from Dunkin Doughnuts

I tried this one day randomly and I got hooked. Its a very light watermelon taste. Very refreshing, perfect for summer.

                                             Clothing/Accessories Item: My Roxy Shoes

I guess they are kinda like a cheaper version of Toms. Super comfortable. I have been rocking them all summer.

What were you loving this past summer?

Book Review: If I Stay

Hey everyone, this post was supposed to go up last Friday. I thought I had scheduled it to go up but I didn't. Sorry about that. So you get a new post today and tomorrow. :)

After seeing the trailer I decided I wanted to read the book before seeing the movie. Just the trailer makes me weepy, so I know I am going to need lots of tissues when I see the movie (which I have yet to see).

If I Stay by Gayle Forman is narrated by 17 year old Mia. Mia and her family all have a unexpected day off and decide to venture out and visit family friends. On the way they get into a terrible accident and everything is forever changed.

This is a very touching story. Mia has a choice to make, a very difficult one. The actual present day story takes place in about a day. But we also flash back to different times in the past, and we are able to learn more about Mia and her family and friends.

I think this book was very well written. It drew me in from the very beginning and kept me hooked till the end.

I am currently reading the follow up to this book called Where She Went.

Welcome To Amber At Dawn!

So I know its been awhile.... a long while. :(

I was out of work this summer because I had surgery. While housebound I realized how much I have missed blogging.

I decided to give my blog a makeover. I combined my blogs and now have a new name (shout out to my boyfriend who thought of it).

I will have posts on all kinds of topics. I do not want to limit myself and hope to keep expanding on the different topics I post about.

Right now the plan is for new posts every Friday. With random posts on other days every now and then. I am going to try really hard to get a post up every week!

So if your still here with me from my old blogs, thanks for sticking around.

 If your new, welcome! :)

What is in my Rose VoxBox!

I was super excited to get the email that I was getting another VoxBox from Influenster. I got my first one the Cosmo VoxBox, about a year ago. Click here to see what was in the Cosmo VoxBox and here for my review on those products.

So when I came home Monday and saw this:

I may have done a little happy dance. Ok, I did.

This time I got the Rose VoxBox*. I was pleasantly surprised by the contents as I did not know exactly what was coming. As I did in my other VoxBox posts, this post will be about what is in the box and my first impressions on the products. Then I will follow up with a review post after I have had some time to use the products. Also I know all the items are not beauty related but to keep it simple I will keep the Rose VoxBox posts on this blog.

Here is what was in the Rose VoxBox:

  • belVita Crunchy Breakfast Biscuits.  These I eat all the time already. They are super yummy and very convenient for on the go breakfast/snack. I got the blueberry in the VoxBox one of my favorite flavors.
  • Dr. Scholl's For Her Cozy Cushions.  Looking forward to trying these out and seeing if I notice a difference in how my feet feel when using them.
  • Kiss Gradation Polishes. I think I am most excited about these polishes. I love the look that these polishes are supposed to give so I am really hoping it turns out how it is supposed to.
  • Rimmel London Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara.  This is probably the second thing I am most excited for. Mascara is one makeup item I will wear even on days when I don't wear much makeup. I am kinda picky about my mascara though so time will tell how this one is.
  • Lindt LINDOR Milk Choclate Truffles. These I have also had before. Love these chocolates. They only give you one small piece but they also include a coupon for $1 off a full sized bag. Excuse to go out and get a bag? Hmmm.

Don't forget to check back for my review post.

* I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Nails: Matte Grey with a Bit of Sparkle

From left clockwise:
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat
NYC Matte Top Coat
Revlon Colorstay Base Coat
Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday
(this is was a mini 100 points perk from Sephora)
Maybelline Color Show Impeccable Greys

Side note: I know some people clean up their nails after they paint them but I usually wait and peel off the nail polish when I wash my hands. It will usually come right off.
